Kakatiyas of Warangal, Prola II, Gold Punch Marked 1 1/2 Gadyana, 5.78g, Uniface, Very huge flan size 50mm, Twenty-three punches discretely and deeply struck on a very thin and broad gold flan, 1 x central punch of the Kakatiya family Goddess Kaakati Devi seated in padmasana facing front with Conch and Discus in her hands. The peripheral punches are stuck in two tiers, the first tier, punches consist of 2 x Kannada letter “Shri Shri”, 4 x Lion standing facing left with raised foreleg, 1 x Kannada legend “Raya Gaja” and 1 x Kannada legend “Kesari”. The outer tier shows 7 X Boar standing facing left and 7 x Lotus placed alternately on obverse (Unpublished). Uncirculated, extremely rare. The Kakatiyas succeeded the Nolamba dynasty and ruled for a brief period and their coins were extremely rare. It is only a year ago a small hord of coins surfaced at Warangal. The Kakatiya coins are most desired among South Indian coin collectors.
