Kakatiyas of Warangal, Prola II, Gold Punch Marked1 1/2 Gadyana, 5.77g, Uniface, Very huge flan size 51 mm, Nine punches discretely and deeply struck on a very thin and broad gold flan, 1 x central punch of Lion standing facing right with raised forepaw. The 8 peripheral punches consist of 2 x Kannada letter “Shri”, 4 x Lion standing facing left with raised foreleg, 1 x Kannada legend “Raya Gaja” and 1 x Kannada legend “Kesari” on obverse (Unpublished). Uncirculated, extremely rare. Prola-II was a feudatory to the Chalukya Vikramaditya-VI and proclaimed independence with the decline of the Chalukyas. He extended his kingdom upto Krishna district. The title Rayagaja Kesari is adorned by many of the Kakatiya rulers following Prola-II, but by looking at the composition of the hoard, the coin could be assigned to Prola-II. The peripheral Lion punch is the insignia of the Chalukyas.
