Seal, Ancient Gujarat, Maitrakas of Vallabhi, Copper Seal, 573.65g, Seated Bull with legend “Shri Bhatarkah” below, most likely a Seal accompanied with copperplate grant. Patinated, very fine, extremely rare.
‘Bhatarka’ was the name of the first ruler of the Maitraka dynasty and for later rulers it became an epithet. It is difficult to say which ruler the seal belongs to, but the style and palaeography of the script is early so it is likely to be of the founder of the dynasty. Thus historically very important extremely rare.
