Sarhind, Silver Rupee, 11.21g, in the name of Alamgir II, AH 11XX/ RY 5 (Not listed in M&W). Very fine, very rare. The Marathas occupied Sarhind from the retreating Durranis for a short while in 1758-59. However, the Durrani emperor Ahmad Shah staged his final invasion of India to repulse them from the Northern Province of Punjab, over which he lay claims as the inheritor of Nadir Shah's legacy. The Maratha occupation of Sarhind lasted for a few months and this coin is a rare testimony to that important historical event.
