Hiranyakas of Rayalaseema region, Arsenical Copper Alloy, 3.09g, “Horse” type, Obv: Horse facing right, Shrivatsa above back and pellet in front of mouth; Brahmi legend “Herañakasa” above, Rev: Traces of arched hill symbol with wavy line below (Unpublished in major publications). Extremely fine for type, extremely rare. The Hiranyakas were a post-Satavahana local dynasty, matrimonially related to the Ikshvakus. They are known more thorugh their large lead coins. This type, struck in alloyed copper, corresponds to the Satavahana and Pallava coins in arsnical copper and might have been struck towards the southern part of the Hiranyaka domains.
