Gujarat Sultanate in transition Period, Rajan Khan ?, Silver Kori- Mahmudi, 4.68g, in the name of Muzaffar III, Frozen date AH 978 (Unpublished in major sources). Very fine, exceedingly rare. The design of this coin is similar to the early issues of Nawanagar (Jamnagar) but the date is clearly 978 and below the name of Muzaffar, a Devnagari / Gujarati legend ‘Shri Ra Jan Sha’ is inscribed. The final letter is undoubtedly a short-form of the word ‘Khan’ – however the previous letters are inconclusive. They could stand for ‘Shri Ra Jan’, ‘Shri Suban’ or ‘Shri Rajan’, depending on how hybrid the script is. Most likely, the coin is an issue of a rebel who appears to have taken advantage of the political uncertainty when Muzaffar III rebelled against Akbar in 1583.
