Indian Order of Merit, Silver, eight-pointed Star with a circular centre surrounded by a laurel wreath and containing crossed sables and the relevant inscription, REWARD OF VALOUR. The Star is suspended by a curvilinear suspension bar (Mackay# 30). Inscribed on the rev, 3rd / Class / Order of Merit. Between 1837 to 1912, only 2,740 of these Order Medals were awarded which itself speaks of its rarity.
