Early Medieval Karnataka, Chalukya/ Hoysala Period, Anonymous, Gold Gadyana, 3.70g, struck in the name of ‘Isapura’, Obv: Lord Rama enthroned facing right, with his consort Goddess Sita seated on left, Hanuman facing towards them in profile, Rev: Hal-kannada legend “Shri I / sapura” in two lines (K Ganesh# ‘Karnataka’ 15.2, plate specimen). Very fine, extremely rare. The Isapura temple mint, located at Isavoor in Shikarpur taluk of Shimoga, issued Gadyanas in the weight standard of the Chalukyas of Kalyana. The local monetary needs were handled by the mints under the patronage of the temples but with the authorization of the ruling dynasty. This temple was constructed by Santala, the lady-patron of some noteworthy Hoysala temples.
