Beautiful rossets on both sides. Complete Mint name on bottom of reverse. Very fine+, exceedingly rare. Nizams of Hyderabad, local ‘Chalnee’ issues. Medak is one of the rarest late Mughal mints with less than five coins known so far. It was a Hindu ‘Samsthana’ under the Nizam of Hyderabad ruled by a Zamindar Raja. Sadasiva Reddy was the ruler of Medak in mid-18th century. He leased the town of Medak to the French general Monsieur Raymond when the latter intervened in succession dispute following the death of Asaf Jah I in 1749. This arrangement continued till Raymond’s death in 1798. This coin is struck under Raymond’s tenure.
