About uncirculated, exceedingly rare. The Nalas were a dynasty contemporary to later Gupta rulers Kumara Gupta and Skanda Gupta, and some Gupta feudatories like the Sarabhapuriyas and the Panduvamsis. They are mainly known from copperplate grants and coins. Kings named Arthapatiraja and Bhavadattaraja are known from inscriptions and coins, whereas Skandavarman is known only from inscriptions. Varaharaja, Nandanaraja and Stambharaja are known only from coins. Their capital Pushkari is identified with modern day Garh-Dhanora in Bastar district but they also extended their rule in Vidarbha at the expense of the Vakatakas. They were ultimately vanquished by the Chalukya king Kirtivarman II. The Nala coins are struck in unusual repousse fabric by hammering a thin sheet of gold over a punch, which resulted in the design leaving an intaglio impression on reverse. They are known in two denominations.
