Azam Shah, Silver Rupee, 11.34g, Khujista Bunyad Mint, AH 1118/ RY Ahad (KM# 332.4). No test and Shroff marks. Brilliant uncirculated, extremely rare in this grade. Azam Shah made his bid for the Mughal throne against his elder brother Mu’azzam, or Shah Alam Bahadur, soon after the death of their father Aurangzeb in March 1707. Azam’s short-lived authority was accepted in Western India, Malwa and parts of the Deccan. His coins are known struck from Ahmadnagar, Khujista Bunyad, Burhanpur, Alamgirpur, Ujjain, Ahmadabad and Junagarh mints. His rule ended on 20 June 1707 when he was defeated and killed by Mu’azzam at the battle of Jajau.
