Manak Pal, Gold Nazarana Mohur, 10.70g, AH 1199/ RY 26, Pseudo Mint name Sawai Jaipur but struck at Karauli. Both sides legend within dotted circle. Extremely fine, extremely rare. These mohur’s were published by Jan Lingenin JONS No 202. According to him, they were struck to celebrate the wedding of Maharaj Kumari of Karauli to the Rao Raja of Bundi, Bishen Singh (Maharaja of Bundi from 1804-1821), in 1785. It is likely that the coins were distributed as a ‘good luck’ objects to the attendees. As such the coins were made into jewellery. Most coins of this kind recently surfaced on the market have the mount removed. This one, however, retains it and it adds considerably to the originality of the object.
