Chahmanas of Sakambhari (Sambhar), Vigraharaja IV, Gold 1/2 Dinar, 4.06g, Obv: Nimbate figure of Lord Shri Rama standing facing holding a bow in left hand and an arrow in the right. Decorative floral scrolls with Hansa bird to left and lotus bud to left. Devanagari legend “Shri Ra / ma” divided on either side, Rev: Devanagari legend in three lines “Shri Madvigra / harajade / va” within a dotted border. Very fine+, exceedingly rare. This rare coin depicts the earliest labelled numismatic depiction of Lord Rama. Its design follows a ‘monumental’ style, where the form and depiction of the Rama image is comparable to that seen on temple architecture. Rama wears a dhoti and an uttariya which covers his entire body. His hair is tied in a bun following Kshatriya conventions.
