Humayun, Silver Shahrukhi, 4.50g, Tatta Mint, Obv: Name of Humayun Muhammad Humayun Ghazi in a pearl-shaped lozenge, other titles around and mint name partly visible at the bottom, Rev: Shahada in circle and names and titles of Rashidoon caliphs around. Very fine+, exceedingly rare. Tatta is the rarest mint for Humayun’s Shahrukhis. Only two or three specimens are known to date. Humayun’s tryst with Sindh began soon after his flight from Lahore to save himself from an impending attack by Sher Shah Suri, hot on his pursuit after the defeat in their battle of Kannauj. Humayun sought refuge with Shah Hussain Arghun of Sindh when his brother Kamran deserted him and went for Kabul. The relations with Shah Hussain were strained, however Humayun managed to secure a base in North Sindh. Here, his son Akbar was born in Umarkot (Sind). Known specimens of Shahrukhis struck at Thatta are from his second reign. Sindh continued to be held by the Arghuns, however as they were a weak state they possibly accepted the sovereignty of Humayun. This specimen is dateless but bears close similarity to a coin dated AH963 which is listed on Zeno (#85168).
