Punch Marked, Upper Krishna valley, Wai-Sultanpur region of Western Maharashtra, sometimes attributed to Ashmaka/Kuntala Janapada, Silver, 6.46g, Obv: Pulley like symbol without Treskelis symbol between the prongs, Rev: Traces of a similar symbol (Rajgor 502-509). About extremely fine, very rare.
The ‘pulley’-type punch-marked coinage is perhaps the earliest coinage in Deccan. The reuse of offer coins, as evident in this specimen, is an important insight into the use of these coins and a rare feature to be preserved in this manner.
