Tipu Sultan, Gold, 2 Pagoda or Sadiqi, 6.82g, Patan Mint, Dually dated AM 1217- Sarab/ RY 7- Sakh, Persian legend within dotted circle on both sides, Obv: “Muhammad Ahmad Deen dar Jahan Ast Roshan za Fateh Haidar Sadiqi Zarb Patan Sal Sarab Sanah 1217”, Rev: Huw al-Sultān al-Wahid al-Adil Tarikh Julus Sal Sakh Suyim Bahari Sanah 7 Julusi” (KM# A127). Extremely fine+, exceedingly rare. Sadiqi or double pagoda is a very rare denomination for Tipu’s gold coinage. The reverse of this coin clearly shows that the cyclic year ‘Sarab’ is re-engraved over the earlier name ‘Sara’. This adds to the rarity manifolds, as such a coin has not been noticed before.
