Jayaji Rao, Silver Rupee, 11.05g, in fictitious name of Muhammad Akbar II, Gwalior Fort Mint, fixed date AH 1224, symbols of Farsi letter “Ain”, sword and Devnagari letter “Jā” on the reverse (Unlisted in major publications). Very fine+, rare. The presence of the letter ‘Ain’ contributes in making the rupee a rare and unusual variety among Gwalior coins. KM lists (following ‘Lingen and Wiggins’ work on Coins of the Sindhias) a half rupee where one can make out a small ‘Ain’. The illustration, however, doesn’t show the Devnagari letter. Here all the three symbols and the fixed AH date on obverse is Clearly visible.
