Shah Jahan, Silver 1/4 Rupee- Nisar, 2.72g, Dar al Saltanah Lahore Mint, AH 1059/ RY 19, Obv: Persian legend “Nisar Sahib Qiran Thāni” and RY, Rev: Mint name and AH year. Very fine, extremely rare. AH 1059 corresponds to 1649, which was an important year in Shah Jahan’s reign. He appointed Aurangzeb to win over Qandahar from the Persians but the campaign ended in Mughal defeat. Lahore was an important Western outpost to execute such campaigns. Many architectural landmarks of Lahore were constructed during 1645-1650 under the governorship of Ali Mardan Khan.
