Aurangzeb, Silver 1/2 Rupee- Nisar, 5.68g, Dar al Khilafah Shahjahanabad Mint, AH 1079/ RY 11, Obv: Persian legend “Nisar Alamgir Badshah Ghazi” with RY at bottom, Rev: Mint name and AH date. Extremely fine, extremely rare. AH 1079 corresponds to 1668-69 which was a momentous year in Aurangzeb's long reign. In this year he appears to have freshly tightened his grip on administration as evident from his orders regarding revenue collecting, army finance and temple destruction. It was probably prompted by Chhatrapati Shivaji’s daring escape from Aurangzeb’s captivity in Agra.
