Sayaji Rao III Gaekwar, Gold Mohur, 7.46g, Baroda Mint, VS 1959, Obv: Bust of the king facing right, wearing a Gaekwar turban with a pearl ornament and several string of pearls, Marathi legend “Shri Sayaji Rao Ma Gayakwad” around, Rev: Denomination and Marathi “Badode” above a scimitar, within a wreath (KM# Y39). Rim on right side 1 o’clock to 3 o’clock, probably looks marks of removal from loop otherwise extremely fine, very rare. The date VS1959 marks the last gold issues for Sayaji Rao III. Evidently the dies to produce these ceremonial coins show wear and tear and consequently, signs of retouching and working over engraving. It is difficult to find a well-struck specimen showing minimal alterations and other stress aspects like hairline cracks.
