Maharao Shri Vijayrajji, Silver 10 Kori, 17.55g, struck jointly with the name of George VI as Emperor of India, VS 1999/ AD 1943, Obv: Within a beaded circular border, the royal insignia of the Jadejas of Kutch, comprising of a crescent Moon, a trident and a dagger, legend in Devnagari “B” below; In exergue, clockwise Devnagari legend “Maharajadhiraj Mirja Maharau Shri Vijayaraj ji Sawai Bahadur”, Rev: Persian legend “Jorj 6 Qaiser-i-Hind Zarb Bhuj 1943” within a floral circle (RS# 272.1). Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. The issue of this denomination - corresponding to nearly 2.5 Rupees in equivalent terms - was prompted by the shortfall in silver supply during the Second World War. It was obviously not twice the weight of the 5-Kori coins and as such was not received well in circulation. Moreover, it must have caused problems in exchange with the British Indian rupees. As a result, the issue was curtailed quickly making these coins one of rarest types in Kutch coinage.
