Kapurthala - Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, Diamond Jubilee Silver Medal, 19.25g, 1937, Obv: Maharaja Jagatjit Singh facing front wearing jewels and robes including the GCSI, with English legend around, Rev: Persian legend “Akal Sahai / Jubilee Almās / Maharaja Jagajit Singh / Wali-ye Riyasat Kapurthala, Sanah 1937/ 1994” (McClenaghan# 187). With suspender loop. Extremely fine, extremely rare. Maharaja Jagatjit Singh ascended the throne in 1877 as a four-year old child and had a long and fruitful reign of over 70 years. He held many leading offices - he was the Indian Representative at the League of Nations General Assembly Geneva in 1926, 1927 and 1929. He attended the Indian Round Table Conference, London, 1931. He was a member of the Indian Defence Council 1941-1945. He became the Uprajpramukh of the Patiala and Eastern Punjab States Union (PEPSU) in 1948 after the merger of his state in India.
