Maharaja Jagatjit Singh ascended the throne in 1877 as a four-year old child and had a long and fruitful reign of over 70 years. He held many leading offices - he was the Indian Representative at the League of Nations General Assembly Geneva in 1926, 1927 and 1929. He attended the Indian Round Table Conference, London, 1931. He was a member of the Indian Defence Council 1941-1945. He became the Uprajpramukh of the Patiala and Eastern Punjab States Union (PEPSU) in 1948 after the merger of his state in India.
