The symbols on coins of Malharnagar mint often alluded to Malhari, Mhalasakant or Khandoba, the titular deity (Kuladevata) of the Holkar clan. He is also referred to as ‘Malhari Martand’, hence the Sun face. The vertical sword or ‘Khanda’ is a weapon associated with God Khandoba. The symbols also indirectly refer to Malhar Rao the founder of the state.
