Rajapur was located at a strategic location on the Konkan cost of western India. It was a leading maritime port with trade up to the Persian Gulf. The Mughals, the Marathas as well as the British were in constant war in having their sway over this port mint. The present coin seems to have issued by the Mughals in the first Konkan campaign against Sambhaji, the great Maratha warrior king.
