South Indian, Gold Gadyana, 4.34g, unattributed, from the coastal Karnataka region, c. 9th century, Obv: worn representation of an ornamental eight-petal lotus, Rev: plain, except four small punch-marks of Conch symbol and two more indentations, perhaps remnant of an abandoned attempt to pierce the coin to be employed in jewellery. Not listed in major publications on South Indian currency systems. Very fine for type, rare.
