Gold Mohur, 10.64g, Gohad Mint, in the name of Shah Alam II, AH 1218/ RY 4 (X), ‘Pistol’ as a mint mark on obv. Ex mount otherwise extremely fine, exceedingly rare. Contrary to attributions perpetuated in KM, coins of Gohad mint in the name of Shah Alam II are not all issues of Dholpur State, which was not even founded until the very last year of the emperor’s reign. Gohad was captured from the Jat Rana by Mahadaji Sindhia in 1784 and remained a part of Gwalior until it was eventually transferred to the British in 1806. The Jat Raja, an ally of the British, was compensated by reinstatement at Dholpur.
