Punch Marked Coins, Magadha Janapada, Silver Karshapana, 3.12g, Obv: five Symbol Coin, ABCDE pattern. Six-armed symbol, Sun, Puppy with taurines around, Palm Tree and TwoTaurines/Dotted Circle symbol. This is a re-struck coin suggesting that an earlier issued coin was used to issue a new set of symbols marked on reverse side of old coin, thus making it a double obverse coin (Gpt/Hdkr# S-III, Var-306). Extremely fine, rare. This type, on the basis of a few conclusive hoard evidences (viz. Bhir hoard) is attributed to the Nanda Dynasty of Magadha and was in circulation at the time when Alexander the Great invaded India. Extremely Important for internal numismatic chronology.
