Unpublished, Extremely fine, unique The double karshapana weight standard coinage of Vajjis is known and their various varieties listed. However, mashaka weight standard coins, which are even otherwise extremely rare in local PMC series, are known for the first time of the Vajjis, who being the most important republican clan of Buddhist times, are profusely referred in chronicles viz. Mahavagga, Mahaparinibbanasutta, Atthakatha, Kalingar Sutta, Sutra Krutanga, Arthashastra etc. Their capital was at Vaishali (modern Basarh in the Vaishali District of North Bihar). They lost their independence at the hand of Ajatasatru of Magadha.
