Agrodaka Janapada, Copper Die-struck, 1.12g, Obv: tree-in-railing, Brahmi legend Agrodaka (Janapadasa) in very early characters, Rev: A six arched hill, A swastika and traces of a composite animal. Very fine, extremely rare. Agacha or Agrodaka coins are often suggested to be struck by the precursors of ‘Agrawals’ a prominent mercantile caste of Northern India. Their area of circulation of period of issuance was very short and hence, this series is Extremely Rare. Also, due to very early Brahmi characters found on these coins, these could be amongst the earliest indigenous inscribed coins of India. This coin is especially important because the ‘Agrodaka’ characters and other symbols are counter struck on an earlier coin.
