South India Lesser Satavahanas / Pallavas of Banavasi, Uninscribed, Lead, 5.27g, Obv: Bull standing facing right in a dotted circle, Rev: Tree, three-arched hill and wavy line representing a river. Very fine+, very rare. Coins of this type were attributed to the Pallavas by Elliott and Mitchiner. But since the bull-type coins of lesser Satavahanas and various Maharthis from South-Central Karnataka were known, there is a possibility that this could well be a type issued slightly earlier than Pallavas.
