Shah Alam II, Silver Rupee, 11.27g, Dar ul Khilafat Shahajanabad Mint, AH 1186 /RY 14. Extremely fine, rare. The middle of 1770’s when this coin is struck saw a lot of political turmoil in the region of Delhi. It is possible that rupees in the name of ‘Shah Jahanabad’ were struck at other places than Delhi during this period by different political authorities. Although it is impossible to say who issued this coin, it is conspicuous by a symbol of ‘4-pointed Star’ in middle line on obverse. It is different to the two major symbols – umbrella (Mughal) and floral sprig (Rohilla).
