Coastal Karnataka region, Feudatories of the Chalukyas/ the Rashtrakutas?, Uninscribed Gold Gadyana, g, Obv: Boar and a lotus flower with long stem, Rev: the shape of an altar or Peetha (the ‘Asana’) for an icon. Extremely fine, extremely rare The most interesting aspect of the coin is the presence of pseudo-Arabic inscriptions in the margins on obverse and reverse. This feature is borrowed from the Gold Dinars of the Baghdad Caliphate arriving in trade on the Karnataka coast.
