Akbar, Silver Rupee, 11.32g, Anharwala Patan Mint, AH 984 (KM# 80.3). Uncleaned, very fine, very rare. The mint-name on these coins is very long – ‘Dar Shahr Anharwala Patan’ – but on this coin the word ‘Anharwala’ is nearly fully visible. It is also sometimes read as ‘Naharwala’. Both are Farsi versions of ‘Anahillawada’, the name of the old capital of Gujarat. The coins were struck for a brief time during the Gujarat Campaign of Akbar, probably to supply money to troops fighting further south.
