Mahmud Shah I, Silver, 1/12?th Tanka 0.76g AH 861 Obv: Arabic legend - ‘Ala al-Duniya wa al-Din 861 Rev: Arabic legend in circle – Mahmud Shah Khalji,Unpublished Very fine, Extremely rare G&G list a 1/8th Tanka as G&G M28(remarked RRR) only on the mention of H Nelson Wright and illustrate it with the reproduction of a picture from his book. They also do not mention the AH date, presumably because the Nelson Wright specimen is worn at the precise position where the date occurs. This coin is a fraction smaller than the 1/8th Tanka, but its weight is odd – too light to be a 1/12th Tanka and too heavy to be a 1/16th. In all likelihood it is a 1/12th Tanka which has lost weight in wear or deposition.
