Kushan, Vasudeva I, Gold Dinar, 8.07g, Obv: Nimbate king with flaming shoulders, long flowing hair and a moustache, standing, wearing diademed conical helmet, armoured tunic and trousers, carrying a sword and holding trident in one hand, while offering sacrifice at an altar with the other; trident with pennants in the backdrop. Bactrian legend “ShAONANO ShAO BAZODEO KOShANO” around, Rev: Nimbate Shiva/Wesho in Dhoti, standing reclining against Nandi the bull, holding a trident in one hand and a diadem in the other, Bactrian legend “OEShO” to right and Tamgha to the left his head (Goebl# 528). Uncirculated, exceedingly rare in this grade. The countenance of the ruler is executed in superb detail and gives us a clear illustration of the Kushan idea of divine kingship.
