Ancient Indian texts mention that the capital city of Chedi, a kingdom which fell roughly in the Bundelkhand division of Madhya Pradesh regions to the south of river Yamuna along the river Ken, was called Suktimati in Sanskrit and Sotthivati-nagara in Pali. In the Mahabharata, Dhrishtaketu was the name of the king of Chedi who sided with the Kauravas.
