Akbar, Gold Mohur, 10.90g, “Kalima” type, Dar al-Sultanate Ahmedabad Mint, AH 981, Obv: Full name of the emperor in central cartouche, invocation Khallada Allah Mulkahu above and mint-name below, Rev: Kalima in centre with AH date, names of Rashidoons without epithets in outer margins. Extremely fine, very rare. Ahmedabad was conquered by Akbar in AH 980 and immediately, coins of Mughal style and standard were issued from the mint. For the first few years during the prolonged conquest of Gujarat, mints were also established in the nearby towns of Malpur and Patan (Anhilwada). This coin struck in AH 981 belongs to that period.
