Jahangir, Copper 2/3rd Unit, 9.37g, Ahmadnagar Mint, struck in the local Nizam shahi type, Obv: Legend Shuhur fi Sanah and depiction of a bird in profile in the lower line, Rev: Name of Jahangir (off flan) with mint name written as ‘AhmadAnagar’. Very fine, very rare. Although the name of the ruler is not visible on the coin, the employment of the mint-name with an extra Alif (reading ‘Ahmadanagar’) is a clear indication that this is a Mughal issue. The occurrence of a bird is seen for the first time on such copper coins. It is a well-known symbol on Jahangir’s silver coins of Elichpur, Berar and Burhanpur mints.
