Kushans – derivative coinage imitating the type of Huvishka, Copper, 10.95g, Obv: King riding on Elephant, holding a sceptre, Rev: Are bodied archer wearing a dhoti standing frontally, holding a strung bow in one hand and an arrow in the other, Tamgha to top left and Kharosthi legend “Yodavade” to left. Very fine, extremely rare. The depiction of the archer here fits in with the iconography of Lord Rama, the hero of the epic poem Ramayana. As it was the practice of the Kushans to show divinities on the reverse of their coins, it is most likely a depiction of Lord Rama. If that is the case, then this would be by far the earliest such depiction. The coin is therefore very significant in addition to being a very rare variety.
