Ghaznavid's, Mas’ud, Silver Dirham, 3.27g, “Hindu Shahi” style, Obv: Bull Seated left, very clear Arabic legend “ithni” (regnal year two?) on the bull’s jhula, Sarada legend “Sri Samantadeva” above, Rev: Mounted horseman right, Arabic legend “Mas’ud” and “Mahu” above right, Sarada ‘Bhi’ left (R, Tye-89.1, J.Deyyel-72). Very fine, very rare. A transition issue, likely produced in the former Hindu Shahi mint, by the Ghaznavid successor of Amir Mahmud Ghaznavid. Very interesting for the small circle on the obverse border (as on issues of Ghaznavid broad dirhams), and on the reverse, the way the engraver has extended the akshara ‘Bhi’ and waving pennon (flag) well beyond the circular border. Rare with the (regnal?) year so clear.
