It was the capital of the Rajput Kachhwaha dynasty. Raja Man Singh of Ambar was one of the most illustrious courtiers and generals of Akbar. His sister, referred to as ‘Mariam al-Zamani’ was the mother of Jahangir. Coins of Amer / Ambar mint are very rare with probably less than half dozen pieces known. The first piece was discovered by Dr P L Gupta in the British Museum’s collection.
