Kadambas of Goa, Jayakeshi Deva, Gold Gadyana, 4.43g, inscribed in Kannada and Devnagari legend, Obv: Lion standing with raised forepaw, facing left. Cyclical year “Prajapati” inscribed in Kannada in front of the Lion, Crescent and Sun symbols above, Rev: Devanagari legend “Sri Sapta / Kotisha labdhavara / Vira Jayakesi / Deva Malavara / mari”. Extremely fine, exceedingly rare. First ever known. So far, only Devnagari inscribed Goa Kadamba coins were known. This is the first time, a Goa Kadamba Gadyana with synchronic Digraphia (Usage of two different scripts, Kannada on the Obverse and Devnagari on the reverse) is listed and known. The coin was issued in the year 1211 CE and is believed to be found somewhere around Kittur area (halfway between Hubli and Belgaum of Karnataka state).
