Punch Marked, Attributed to Magadha Janapada, Silver Mashaka?, 0.30g, “Series 0”, Bold six-armed symbol punched in the centre; small symbols around on obverse (Similar to Rajgor series 9 but denomination not listed). Very fine+, extremely rare. Coins weighing around 5.5 gm and classified as ‘1/2 Shatamana’ standard are perhaps the earliest coins of the Magadha series. They later evolve into Vimshatikas of four-punched mark type and Karshapanas of ‘series 0’. This is evidently a 1/16th fraction of this early series and therefore qualifies to the ‘Mashaka’ denomination.
