Satavahanas, Nasik region, in the name of Siri Satakani (c.100-50BC), Copper, 2.91g, “Elephant” type, Obv: Elephant with trunk raised standing facing right, triangle-headed standard above, Brahmi legend “Raño Siri Satakanisa” above, Rev: Tree with drop-shaped leaves in a railing. Very fine, extremely rare. Most coins of the Nasik elephant type are struck in alloyed copper but this fractional issue, with a well-preserved legend, is struck in copper. On the reverse, it only shows the tree; however, it is likely to have had an ‘Ujjain’-symbol by its side to the left.
