Satavahanas, Nasik region, Kochhiputa Siri Satakani, issued under the dynastic name “Satavahana”, Alloyed Copper, 6.50g, “Elephant” type, Obv: Elephant with trunk raised marching to right, Ujjain symbol above, Brahmi legend “Raño Siri Satavahanasa” in full extent above, Rev: Tree with characteristic drooping leaves in a chequered railing, with dots in between. Extremely fine, extremely rare. Although the coin is struck with the name ‘Satavahana’, its attribution to Kochhiputa Satakani is almost certain, owing to the very close similarity in execution of its motifs. This is an early and very rare type of coins with the legend ‘Stavahana’ from Nasik area.
