Nashik- Gulshanabad, Silver 1/2 Rupee, 5.50g, in the name of Shah Alam II, AH 124X, Obv: Devnagari “Ra”, Rev: ‘Jaripatka’ or flag flowing to left with a dot below. Very fine, very rare. Although listed as ‘Maratha’ by Maheshwari & Wiggins, the date this rupee bears clearly suggests it was struck under the authority of the East India Company, as a transitional issue. The date is engraved upside down. The prominent dot below the ‘Jaripataka’ symbol might suggest a change in metallic purity effected under the East India Company’s operation of the mint.
