Ancient Central Maharashtra- Marathwada, Pre-Satvahanas period, c. 200-150BC, Uninscribed Die struck Copper, 4.55g, Obv: Goddess Shri, shown in her symbolic form ‘Shrivatsa’, being lustrated by two Elephants pouring water over the symbol, while standing on lotuses, Rev: Tree-in-railing with small symbols around; a small Ujjain symbol visible to right and a small fish to the lower right of the railing (Unpublished in major sources). Very fine, extremely rare. The symbolic form of Shrivatsa lustrated by elephants is highly important for tracing the iconography of ‘Abhisheka Lakshmi’. The depiction here shows the interchangeability of human and symbolic forms of the goddess.
