Satavahanas, Nasik region, Siri Satakani (c.100-50BC), Alloyed Copper, 3.75g, “Elephant” type, Obv: Elephant marching to right, wavy line below and an Ujjain symbol above, Brahmi legend “..takanisa” to right, Rev: Ujjain symbol with one orb modified with a crescent and all components executed with double lines, enclosed in a double rectangular border. Very fine, extremely rare. Many ‘elephant’ type coins from Nasik region depict the animal walking to right but all have a tree-in-railing and a modified ‘Ujjain’ symbol on the reverse. This coin is unique in the sense that it has only the ‘Ujjain’ symbol on the reverse and it is executed in a unique fashion as well.
