Satavahanas, Nasik region, Vasithiputa Siri Satakani (c.125-135AD), Alloyed Copper, 2.25g, “Elephant” type, Obv: Elephant standing facing right, with trunk raised, Brahmi legend “…..Siri Satakanisa” around, Rev: Ujjain symbol with dots in orbs. Very fine, extremely rare. The last two letters identify this coin to be an issue of Vasithiputa Siri Satakani and it follows in type and fabric from the issues of his predecessor, Vasithiputa Siri Pulumavi. At this time, the regiospecific character of Satavahana coinage had begun diminishing in Maharashtra Deccan. Soon, the ‘universal’ elephant type coins in potin became the hallmark of Satavahana currency.
