Satavahanas, Junnar region, Siri Satakani (c.100-50BC), Alloyed Copper, 7.82g, “Shrivatsa” type, Obv: A row of symbols bold Shrivatsa in the centre, tree in railing to its left and six-arched hill to the right, Brahmi legend “…Siri Satakanisa” above, Rev: Ujjain-symbol with Swastikas in orbs, enclosed in a rectangular border. Extremely fine, extremely rare. Sanjay More and Vijay Hiran first published coins of the ‘Shrivatsa’ type in Numismatic Digest 1992, alongside ‘Abhisheka Lakshmi’ coins from Junnar. Since then, only a very few specimens have turned up suggesting that the type remains very rare. This is an exceptionally well-preserved specimen.
